In the west of the land, where the song began,
is a kingdom proud and free.
And the soul of the realm is the mountains and vales
where the oak lands meet the sea.
In the forest rills through the ancient hills
flows the dream for which we quest.
Like a strong old tree is the Barony
of Darkwood, the Oak of the West.
- John Rossignol, Bard of the Oaks
October 2004, AS XXXIX

Ours is just one small part of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a world-wide group dedicated to the re-creation of the middle ages as they *should* have been (i.e., without the plague, the Inquisition, witch burnings, etc.). We recreate medieval combat, sciences (like brewing, metalwork, leatherwork) and arts (such as calligraphy, dancing, music, and sewing).
If you want to learn more about us, or the SCA in general, email the Darkwood webmistress, or come to one of our events!
